How to use the Word Unscrambler

Word Unscrambler checks which words can be built from the letters you enter. It is useful when you have a scrambled word, a rack of letters, a classroom word challenge, or an anagram and want possible matches without guessing one word at a time.

  1. Choose a vocabulary

Use Game-friendly for broad word-game vocabulary, Common for familiar words, or Extended for rare matches.

  2. Enter the available letters

Type at least two letters. Spaces, numbers, and punctuation are ignored.

  3. Review the matches

Select Find words, then scan the returned list and start over when you want a new set.

A practical example

Letters: triangle

The unscrambler can return words that use only those available letters, including shorter matches. A result never uses a letter more times than it appears in your entry.

What to know

  • You can enter up to 20 letters.
  • Dictionaries differ, so confirm a word against the rules of your specific game or assignment.

Questions people ask

Can a result use the same letter twice?

Only when that letter appears at least twice in your entry.

Why do the three word lists give different results?

They balance familiarity and breadth differently. The Extended list includes rarer words that the Common list intentionally leaves out.
